Coaches’ Corner

Skating is hockey and hockey is skating! Proper skating mechanics are essential to building the foundation for the success of an individual player. PuckPros has a unique approach to building skating within our Full Body Diamond Skating System, which provides a player with power, finesse, and agility.

First, proper posture is the starting point. A skater’s shoulders must be in front of their knees with a proper spinal column angle at 52 degrees, and knees in front of the toes. Second, the equation for PuckPros’ hockey stance is: Proper posture + weight distribution = FWD Press Position. This formula provides a player with more stability within any form of physical contact; improved symmetry in the use of the upper torso over the lower torso; and proper Spatial Differences between the knees (stride) and skates (recovery) when skating in a full length stride. Third, maximizing the weight transfer from the glide leg to glide leg is essential to being 100% balanced over the leg underneath matching up the upper torso over the lower where the individual’s sternum is aligned with knees and skates.

If a player perfects the Full Body stride within the Diamond Skating System, they will better execute their creative thought and become, overall, a more effective hockey player contributing the success of their team!
